Alterations for the Bride and her Bridal Party
Your bridal gown is probably the most important dress you will ever wear. Have your alterations completed by a professional who will help you achieve the perfect silhouette. Maureen provides expert advice so you look your best on your wedding day.
I have been assisting brides and bridal parties for over 30 years. Many are former prom customers who return for bridal alterations from as far away as Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Florida. They appreciate the personalized attention and quality workmanship Maureen provides. She strives to make each client feel special, comfortable, and confident about her appearance.
Beginning with your first call to make your appointment, Maureen will ask some basic questions, talk with you to assess what alterations you need, discuss any custom work or design changes you might like, and answer questions you may have. She will also let you know what items you will need to bring.
At your fittings you can expect to receive suggestions to enhance the appearance of your gown. Your opinions matter and are the primary factor in determining the alterations which will be made. Maureen listens to your ideas and works with you as a partner to achieve the desired result.
For your first fitting you will need to bring your shoes and undergarments. Fittings cannot be done without them. You can expect the first fitting to last 45 minutes to an hour. Your are never rushed though an appointment. ( Please avoid bringing small children who require care unless someone comes with you to watch them. ) After work and evening appointments are available.
Resizing a dress is almost always possible. Whether you need it enlarged or downsized, care is taken to keep the original design intact.
Corset Backs are good solution to enlarging a gown. Adding additional material on the sides is also a possibility.
Bustling is an alteration almost all brides need. Bustling your gown’s train with help prevent soiling and keep people from stepping on your dress at the reception. All Maureen’s bustles are custom created and unique to your dress. Bustling should enhance the appearance of your gown. It should look as beautiful bustled as it does when the train is down.
Steaming is available for all gowns even if alterations are not needed.
Last minute alterations may be a possibility if time permits. Rush charges will apply for bridals with three weeks or less for completion time. And rush charges will be added to bridesmaid’s dresses with 1 week or less for completion time. Avoid additional charges by calling early for appointments.
Measurement Appointments at a minimal cost are available for those who are ordering their gowns online. The cost of the measurements appointment will be deducted from the alterations cost if you bring your dress back for alterations.
Brides who would like a price estimate prior to committing to alterations can set up a consultation appointment at a minimal cost to discuss what would need done and the cost of those services.
Some Samples of My Work
This gown started as a clearance priced cocktail dress. By adding several layers of tulle, sparkling stretch knit, and chiffon the gown was transformed to a simple bridal gown. The circular handmade embellishment on the side combining each of the fabric types pulls the entire look together.
These are the before and after photos of a bride’s dream dress. She purchased the basic bridal on clearance. She also purchased the shades of tulle she wanted added to the dress. Many fittings were required to get the color pattern exactly the way she desired. Detachable off the shoulder sleeves were added.
